It's beginning...

to look a lot like a match-up!!!

actually, my house is beginning to look more and more like a war zone, but hey... the holidays are upon us, so I can't see why this year would be any different for me.

That's right... I've begun not only the regular preparations for Thanksgiving/Christmas... but I've hit my stride with preparation's for this year's Christmas Social. The Save the Date announcements are almost all created and delivered..... I've begun working on the favors... and have been mentally doing the layouts for the actual invites. Still to do are the rules for the gift exchange, the actual creation of and delivery of the invites, determine and buy the grand prize for the gift exchange... send my in-laws ' birthday gifts (late since beginning of October.. ugggg) start writing our Christmas cards, buy Christmas presents, buy a turkey and all the food stuff.... ummm.. and what else?? oh maybe SLEEP?????

It's just really difficult to find the zen of the impending holidays when it's been in the upper 70's all week. QUITE the change from the frigid brown state of Nevada we were in last year. I mean... I realize there are some people out there that DESPISE the holidays... so they just never ever get into the mood-slash-spirit... but I'm not one of those people. I eat this season UP!!! ahh.... too many thoughts to write about here regarding that... but anyways...

THE MATCH-UP!!!

I figured with all the world shifting in high gear towards the next month and a half... I might as well, too.

so today... I ask you, my dear readers... to answer a deep... IMPORTANT question.....

which kicks more ass????

STUFFING

or

CRANBERRY SAUCE

I know... this may be an easy one for each of you to answer... but globally... I'm really curious which would be the preferred side dish to your thanksgiving meal. Mind you, I didn't say turkey, cause I respect those of you out there that just chomp on veggies for fun.

So whatever it is that stuffs your gourd this month... which is your preferred condiment/accompaniment with dinner??

important shit, here, people.... I gotta know!

DING DING!!!!

OMG stuffing for sure- but i am one picky biotch. it has GOT to be made with veggie stock , no God-forsaken Chicken stock! and NOT stuffed IN the God-forsaken un-vegetarian bird.... just in a casserole dish please. You know what? i will just bring my own personal stuffing as not to annoy or be bothersome! it is my fav, all sauteed up with celery and onions. yum.....

Being a food lover, this one is hard for me. I'm one of those that actually loves the congealed can of crandberry sauce that you slice into slivers & still have the can marks left on them.

But I love starches and crave eating breads & pasta.

So I'm gonna go with stuffing. Not cornbread stuffing, though. Just stove-top out of a can is fine with me, thankyouverymuch!

I have to agree with Gina above on but only one point – the stuffing should NOT be put and cooked inside the bird.
Fine match up this week, kid. I am left pondering the wonders of each choice, as we all know there really isn’t a choice since both of which hits my plate with gluttonous zeal and fervor.
However, if one of the festive accompaniments must be left out of my feedbag, then I must consider several factors.
One: what are the origins of each? I must place a certain bias on the creation of those foodstuffs. Is the stuffing a generations-old recipe, cooked up in huge batches by the aunts on a late week night to be savored for its nostalgia? Have the cranberries been soaked overnight in various juices before hitting the boil, watched all so closely for that perfect moment to add the sugars and spices? Obviously, the home-spun stuffs win over the supermarket’s no frills bagged and canned models.
(Digression – the Porq would disagree in my choice of homemade over canned cranberry glop. More to come on this.)
Two: is there a massive (noticeable) amount of celery in the stuffing? If so – cranberries win without any further clarification.
Three: Are there potatoes on the table? If not, refer to the quality of the gravy. The gravy must not only supplement possible dryness of the birdmeat, but also enhance the stuffing as a moist happy bed for the rest of the sides that would pile up on the plate. If the gravy proves sub-par, one would be tempted to use the fruit compote as a moisture additive to allow maximum gorging.
Given overall averages, along with the established criteria for selection – the stuffing would be the probable omission from the holiday plate.
That tart sweetness breaks up the drab veggies and provides a cool segment back and forth from the palate-cleansing vino.
Go Cran!

Stuffing WITHOUT celery. Lumpy, mushy, soggy, actually anyway but NO CELERY!!!

Cranberry sauce is cool and slides down the ol' gullet pretty good , but you can always have just stuffing & gravy and have a meal... with a beer that is!!!

PLUS yer ma don't like cranberry sauce! ( MORE FOR US!!! )

So where's my invite missy? :O) hehe

And stuffing is totally better. If you make it right is can combine a whle bunch of the food groups and nto to mention it usually tastes better. Definitely tops that glorified Jam any day!

Ooooh. Stove Top is so yummy with gravy trickled over! But like Greekchickie I love me some cannec cranberry sauce with the can indentations still in it. Cranberry sauce is like dessert in the middle of your meal! Ugh oooh can't decide...

I guess I'll take the stuffing! Cause I'm all about the GRAVY for sure. Anything that soaks up the gravy is good to me.

Stuffing for sure!! Yummy...
I love cranberry sauce too, but I would choose stuffing over cranberry sauce any day. :)

In the South it's called dressing instead of stuffing because we don't actually stuff it up the bird's ass. My mom makes kick ass cornbread dressing and it rocks. Totally voting for the dressing or stuffing if you like.

Okay I just remembered my Grandmother's cranberry salad. Jello, cranberries, pecans, celery, pineapple. God, I love that stuff. But you were talking strictly out of the can right? Then I'll still take the dressing but if you throw my Grandma's cranberry salad in the ring it's gonna be a tie...

I vote AGAIN for stuffing because well, when i eat it with my family i let them dish it up first, ask them if they have enough and then eat all the rest :)

Stuffing. Cranberries are for old people with urinary tract infections.

Interestingly enough my word verification is toes. Cool.

Stuffing! And I have to be different and say from IN THE BIRD. I don't like it crispy when it's baked on it's own, I like the mushy stuff from inside the bird the best. Gross, I know, turkey butt flavored bread. But I don't care.
